A future in ruins: Unsettling questions about heritage

Join our guest speaker Lynn Meskell (Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) Professor at the Department of Anthropology, School of Arts & Sciences, Penn Museum) for a short presentation about her award-winning book A Future in Ruins: UNESCO, World Heritage, and the Dream of Peace (OUP, 2018). The book tells the multifaceted story of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and sheds light on the complex mechanisms of global heritage and preservation. Lynn invites us to ask unsettling questions about established and underdeveloped relationships to past heritage, as well as their current implications and potential to shift contemporary narratives. The presentation will be followed by Q&A with the audience.
